India increased their lead at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 rankings by defeating England in Dharamsala to win the five-match series 4-1.
They will remain at the top regardless of the outcome of the ongoing Christchurch Test between New Zealand and Australia, who are second and third respectively in the points table.
The 4-1 series win also helped India leapfrog Australia to the top of the ICC Test rankings and they will retain their No.
1 spot even if Australia defeats New Zealand in Christchurch.
India is also currently the number one ODI and T20I team.
India dropped to fifth place in the WTC points table after losing the first match of the series against England in Hyderabad, but climbed back to the top spot by winning the next three matches.
The innings win in Dharamsala took their points tally to 68.
51%, claiming 74 points out of 108 after playing nine matches (six wins, two losses, one draw) in the ongoing WTC cycle.
According to the WTC scoring system, a team gets 12 points for a Test win, six points for a draw, four points for a draw and no points for a loss.
And they are ranked by percentage of points won because each team plays a different number of tests during the WTC cycle.
Points were also deducted for speeding penalties, which is why England have just 21 points despite winning three Tests in this WTC cycle.
They lost 19 points to overrated penalties and are in eighth place with just 17.

The top two teams at the end of the WTC cycle will play the final at Lord's in June 2025.
India have so far qualified for the previous two WTC finals, but lost to New Zealand in 2021 and Australia in 2023.
